I Rest My Case The New York Racing Association refused to listen to reason and restore "The Sidewalks of New York" as the official song of the Belmont Stakes. Instead, they chose to add insult to injury by recruiting Irish Tenor (and Yankee Stadium regular) Ronan Tynan to sing "New York, New York" before the Belmont Stakes. The least they could have done was recruit an Italian crooner to take up Frank Sinatra's mantle.

And odds-on favorite Smarty Jones fell to unheralded Birdstone -- a 37-1 shot!

The New York Racing Association is an instrumentality of New York State, its board members appointed by "Gov." George Elmer Pataki. Perhaps the "Governor" was too busy working on the two-month-late state budget to act on this site's very reasonable prescription for triple-crown glory. I trust the voters will not be distracted in 2006.
